What is Rivet?
Rivet is a new reading app with over 3,000 free leveled books designed for children who are learning to read.
How much does Rivet cost?
Rivet is free! The app and the books in the app are completely free to use. Offering a wide variety of free reading content is core to our mission of improving reading practice for early readers.
Who created Rivet?
Rivet is built by a small team from Area 120 — Google's workshop for experimental products. Our mission is better independent reading practice for early readers.
Where is Rivet available?
Rivet currently offers English language books for readers in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Brazil, Nigeria, Philippines, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Egypt, Chile, Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Russia, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
Which devices support Rivet?
Rivet works on Android smartphones and tablets, Chromebooks, iPhones and iPads, and Kindle Fire. Devices must be running either Android 5.0, iOS 9.0, Fire OS 5.0 or higher.
Does Rivet work with Family Link and G Suite for Education accounts?
Not currently. Rivet should be installed on a parent's device and a parent should log in with their Google account. You may set up individual profiles within Rivet for each child in your family.
Is Rivet COPPA Compliant?
Yes. Protecting user data, and especially data from children, is core to our mission. We closely follow COPPA best practices according to the FTC. For this reason, we require parental consent before granting access to our app.
What data does Rivet collect?
To respect your privacy, Rivet collects the minimum amount of data necessary to operate: basic information about your Google account (if signed-in), your device and your child's profile and activity (if signed-in). We do not store your child's voice data.
Is data from the app used for any other purpose, like advertising?
No, the data collected is only used to help us provide children with a better reading experience in the app. Learn more.
How do teachers use Rivet?
